THE BALLINGLEN FELLOWSHIP

July 17 – August 14  2024

The residency gave me to time to reconnect with my practice in more in depth ways, that life and everything can mean we as artists have to put our practice on the back burner.

“It was not superficial it was meaningful and reflective time. This opportunity made my practice first and foremost for four weeks. I enjoyed field trips, visits to specific locations, of cultural or historic interest, as well as places of geographic beauty and archaeological importance. These wee trips always inform and broaden the practice. Being in the environment is priceless. I have my favourite places I always return to, knowing the coastline from previous visits as a Fellow of Ballinglen.

For me the greatest benefit of the time was having the head space as well as the actual studio space to develop ideas and play. I developed ideas around drawing and an element around performative drawing. I also delved into my painting practice significantly which was both challenging and fun.”

“I am actually now seeing that with the distance and now as I am back home the real benefits are starting to emerge. The benefit of reflection is always good.”
